About Us
TBF Environmental Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
India faces critical issues in providing safe sanitation solutions to its people. This problem causes many serious long-term consequences for health and wellbeing. Many diseases can be avoided by safe sanitation and effective wastewater treatment.
At TBF Environmental Solutions Pvt. Ltd, we endeavour to change that. We seek to provide access to sanitation and wastewater treatment to the millions of Indians who are deprived of these necessities. By keeping our solutions effective, safe and affordable, we aim to reach 1 million homes in the next 5 years and help India achieve its rural sanitation targets.
We offer expert treatment of sewage and wastewater. Our products – the Tiger Toilet and the Tiger Biofilter Sewage Treatment Plant, are based on our proprietary Tiger Technology, which uses a unique combination of worms, bacteria, and natural filtration materials to effectively treat fecal and sewage waste. Our products are offered in reinforced cement concrete (RCC) and fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP).
Our Story
To date we have nearly 20000+ satisfied customers across 9 states of India
The Tiger Toilet was developed through the Sanitation Ventures project at The London School of Hygiene &Tropical Medicine, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The first working prototype was built in 2012 in the UK at the Centre for Alternative Technology.
Subsequently, with funding support from USAID, field testing was carried out in India, Uganda and Myanmar, in a partnership between Bear Valley Ventures and PriMove, Water for People, and Oxfam respectively.
Since 2014, more than 4500 units of the Rural Tiger Toilet has been sold and installed throughout the country. Simultaneously, prototyping and piloting process for an urban version of the Tiger Toilet were conducted, and a new product compliant with urban requirements of space and efficiency was developed. In 2018, the Urban Tiger Toilet was released.

Tiger Toilet
EASE OF INSTALLATION - Little supervision needed, can be installed by unskilled labour
This low maintenance toilet has an easy-to-install superstructure and the vermifiltration- based digester includes specialized bio-media, drainage layers, and a specially selected species of earthworms that are very effective for decomposition.
4500+ toilets installed in 70 villages, across three states
More than 99% of faecal pathogens are removed by the worms in the digester tank. The small fraction that remain gradually filter through specialised drainage layers into the soil, where their low concentration significantly diminishes any likelihood of contamination or infiltration into waterways.
This level of pathogen removal is considerably higher than both septic tanks (which remove at most 90% of pathogens, in high-end systems) and pit latrines (which often have very high levels of pathogens within a 30-foot radius). The level of pathogen destruction achieved by the Tiger Toilet system is unprecedented in distributed low-cost toilet systems.
Tiger Toilet is especially suited for rural India where open defecation is prevalent. The tiger toilet neutralises the human excreta waste in a short duration less than 48 hours, without any nuisance of odour, and does not require sludge handling ever.
AFFORDABILITY - Cheaper than septic tank and comparable to twin pit latrines
The digester is accommodated in below the toilet plan in the substructure of the house, or outside the house. The digester does not require any regular top-up of biological culture and media, thus making it an easy to use and operate toilet.
MINIMUM MAINTENANCE - Build up of vermicompost is slow, needs to be cleaned every 8-10 years
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Biological digester contains media that filters organic material from the toilet wastewater. The media also provides a habitat for waste consuming micro-organisms and composting earthworms. These together produce humus by consuming the waste matter. The "trickling action" of the wastewater through the media dissolves oxygen into the wastewater. Waste matter is thus purified by assimilation and digestion of organic matter in body of worms and microorganisms, leaving behind clean and odour-free compost.
